Grouping Paragraph Titles

Once we have our paragraph titles, we need to look at how we can group them.

For example, say you have the following paragraph titles.

  1. "Jonah goes to Nineveh and calls them to repentance."

  2. "Nineveh repents."

  3. "God relents."

  4. "Jonah is angry with the Lord and the Lord responds."

  5. "Jonah leaves Ninevah and argues with the Lord."

We can easily see a structural contour here. Paragraphs 1, 2, and 3 group into a general idea and then paragraphs 4 and 5 fit into their own group. It is then helpful to label the groupings.
