Structural and Literary Relationships within a Biblical Book or Biblical Passage.

  1. Comparison - the association of like things

  2. Contrast - the association of opposites

  3. Repetition - the repeating of the same terms

  4. Continuity - the repeating of similar terms

  5. Continuation - the extension of a theme even further

  6. Climax - the progression from lesser to greater to greatest

  7. Cruciality - the pivot or turning point in the narrative or argument

  8. Interchange - the exchanging or alternating of specific arguments/persons

  9. Particularization - the movement from general to particular

  10. Generalization - the movement from particular to general

  11. Causation - the movement from cause to effect

  12. Substantiation - the movement from effect to cause

  13. Instrumentation - the means to an end + the end itself

  14. Explanation/Analysis - presenting an idea/event + its interpretation

  15. Preparation/Introduction - the background and setting for events/ideas

  16. Summarization - the abridgment before or after an event or argument

  17. Interrogation - the question/problem followed by the answer

  18. Harmony - the unity achieved by means of agreement

  19. Proportion - the emphasis by space for specific persons/events/ideas

  20. Illustration - the illustrating of a truth with a concrete example

  21. Bracketing/Inclusio - the enclosing of events or argumentation with the same ideas or persons at the beginning and end like bookends

  22. Announcement of subject - announcing the next topic at a section's end

  23. Hook Words - repetition of key words in successive sections for smooth transition between sections

  24. Chiasmus - the ABBA symmetrical arrangement like the Greek letter x (chi)
