For this book chart we are going to chart a smaller chunk of Scripture. For this example we will go through Proverbs chapter 5.

Read for the BIG PICTURE of your passage

After you determine the big picture of the book, you will want to create a purpose statement. After reading Proverbs 5 multiple times we come away with something like "Purpose: To encourage his son to keep away from adultery and to enjoy the fulfillment of his wife because ultimately a lack of discipline leads to death.
